Join us for a special full-day workshop with Steve Shupper of Glass Accessories International (GAI), better known as “The TOYO Supercutter Guy!” Steve will share his glass-cutting expertise and introduce you to the Morton Portable Glass Shop. Then, Kris will show you how to transform your carefully cut pieces into a beautiful leaded panel.
Designed for beginners and experienced glass artists alike, this hands-on workshop will help you build confidence with precision cutting, explore the Morton system, and put your new skills to work on an 8″ x 8″ geometric leaded panel.
Part 1: Glass-Cutting Skills with Steve
The first two hours focus on techniques, tips, and tricks to help you become a more confident and efficient glass cutter. Learn how to tackle challenging glass, cut inside curves and thin strips, create perfect circles, rescue imperfect scores, and more!
You'll develop practical skills to improve your accuracy, reduce glass waste, and expand what's possible in your glasswork.
Part 2: The Morton Portable Glass Shop with Steve
After the break, Steve will introduce the basics of setting up and using the Morton Portable Glass Shop. You'll learn how to use the system to make precise cuts for your own 8″ x 8″ leaded panel.
Additionally we'll cover:
• Creating precisely measured, orthogonal shapes
• Setting up angles
• Cutting diamonds
• Cutting hexagons
Part 3: Build a Leaded Panel with Kris
During the final portion of class, Kris will guide you through the process of assembling your cut glass into a finished leaded piece.
You'll leave with new cutting techniques, practical experience with the Morton Portable Glass Shop, and a completed panel to show for your work!
About Steve: Steve Shupper has been cutting glass for over 45 years when his grandfather Sam taught him in his North Hollywood, California, home workshop. Sam was a master craftsman that created hundreds of Tiffany style lamps and huge window scenes alongside inlaid, intricate wood tables, oil paintings, and welded arts. Steve loved spending time in the workshop as a kid and continued to foster that creative, technical itch throughout his life.
Today, Steve is the co-owner of Glass Accessories Int’l, more commonly known as the Toyo Supercutter guy. Starting with his grandfather, his family has been the North American distributor for TOYO™ Supercutters since 1975.
This is a make-and-take / skill-building class, so you'll leave with new skills and a completed project!
Please note: It is advised not to do stained glass while you are pregnant.
Age Requirement: A parent or guardian must accompany participants between the ages of 13 and 18 years old. Children under 13 are not permitted in the workshop area.
